Yesterday Amy and I went to the beach with our friend Kelly. The weather was strange and beautiful. Strong winds, strange clouds with light beaming through here and there. (Jumping photos were included)
We took some video and a few photos and then retired back at the house to watch 'Surfwise', a movie about the surfing Paskowitz family. I highly recommend you watch it, reconsider everything you've ever learned and discuss with friends or your spouse.
This documentary forces you to discuss issues. It's practically impossible to walk away from unmoved by the issues (right or wrong) brought up about family, wisdom and modern societal living.
However, I apologize in advance for the bad words. Bring your ear-muffs.
i haven't seen it. I work with Moses Paskowitz occasionally. Hum. I need to see. Adding to netflix now

my husband and i watched a documentary a while back on the paskowitz family (not sure if it was this same movie or not) and we loved it!! mind blowing in the best of ways! to live so freely as they did.
in about eight more years, we hope to be living on a sailboat traveling the americas...with our kids, who will be teenagers at the time. not exactly (or even nearly) the same; however, i look forward to the freedom to live freely and...just be!! so. can't. wait!!
glad you were able to enjoy a beautiful day at the beach.

I saw it a while ago. It was incredulous -- seemed more like fiction than a family's life story.
So many thoughts on it (especially when I initially watched -- I think it plagued me for a few days). I guess when I think about the film now, the things that stick with me are:
*follow your dreams: if you can dream it, you can do it
*your dream might not necessarily be your child's dream so don't force them into what YOU think they should do (it seemed like some of the kids were bitter that they weren't allowed to pursue academia)
*family is important and fostering sibling camaraderie is priceless
Of course I am looking at this from the perspective of trying to parent my own children successfully so that they don't bash me on a documentary when they are adults.

Wow, you are so on about that movie. It really makes you think. As parents, most of all we discussed how different families can be, and as parents, they made that choice, no matter how strange everyone thought they were, how their family would behave. In it, as in every family, there were good and bad things. But it did make me want to re-think my priorities in my life and how they may be affecting my child.....
